LEARN TO SWIM LEVELS

Learn to Swim 1

Learn to Swim 1 is for children who do not know how to swim and have no prior swimming experience. The swimmer will learn the foundations of swimming: safety, floating, bubbles, and stability in the water. 

3 swimmers : 1 instructor.

Learn to Swim 2

Prerequisite: Must be able to blow bubbles and kick with face in water.

Learn to Swim 2 is for children who know how to kick Freestyle and put their face in the water but still have trouble swimming on their own without assistance.  The swimmer will learn how to swim basic freestyle and backstroke for short distances.  

3 swimmers : 1 instructor.

Learn to Swim 3

Prerequisite: Must be able to float on back unassisted and swim a short distance of Freestyle and Backstroke unassisted.

Learn to Swim 3 is for children who know how to float on their back and swim Freestyle and Backstroke a short distance unassisted. The purpose of the class is to improve the swimmer’s ability to swim further distances of Freestyle and Backstroke unassisted.

ADVANCED SWIM LEVELS

Advanced Swim 1

Prerequisite: Must be able to swim 10 yards Freestyle with side breathing and 10 yards of Backstroke unassisted.

Advanced Swim 1 is for children who know how to swim Freestyle with side breathing and Backstroke unassisted for 10 yards, but have minimal knowledge of Breaststroke and Butterfly.  The swimmer will continue to improve upon Freestyle and Backstroke and learn basic Breaststroke and Butterfly.

3 swimmers : 1 instructor.

Advanced Swim 2

Prerequisite: Must be able to swim 25 yards Freestyle with side breathing unassisted, 25 yards of Backstroke unassisted, and have a working knowledge of Breastroke and Butterfly.

Advanced Swim 2 is for children who know how to swim and can swim all 4 strokes at a basic level.  The swimmer will refine the technique of all four strokes and continue to gain endurance. 

3 swimmers : 1 instructor.

Advanced Swim 3

(also known as Coached Lap Swim)

Prerequisite: Must be able to swim all 4 strokes legally for 25 yards: Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly. 

Advanced Swim 3 is for children who can swim all 4 strokes legally who want to continue building endurance through Coached Lap Swim lessons.  Swimmers will work on technique, speed, and endurance. The swimmer must attend an assessment prior to registering for Advanced Swim 3 unless the swimmer has previously been enrolled in Coached Lap Swim at SLSS.
